George Angelomatis

George is a seasoned veteran to the fight game. He founded the Astoria Boxing Club alongside Jack Duke in 1977. Since then, George has been in the gym every possible hour, donating his time to help young fighters get started. For the past 32 years, George has worked tirelessly to help boxers reach their full potential.

Dave Schuck, Head Coach

David started boxing competitively in 1986 and has been coaching teams and amateur and professional boxers for over ten years.  He has established a boxing gym in Washington, USA as well as volunteered his expertise and time at the Action Boxing Club, North Burnaby Boxing Club and the Astoria Fraser Arms Boxing Club.  In 2004 he began working with sports teams and personal clients to improve their conditioning and level of fitness.  His certificates include; Level 3 USA Boxing certificate, Level 2 Canadian Amateur Boxing Association certificate as well as his Professional Boxing Coach certificate.

Arezki Belaidi, Assistant Coach

With over 20 fights Arezki has decided to take a year to training and coach others at Astoria Boxing Club.  He is Dave’s right hand man, being taught from the start by Schuck. Arezki works both with the novice and experienced fighters as well as the recreational boxers.

He plans on returning to the ring in 2011.

Meghan O’Connell, Coach

Meghan coaches on Friday evenings and enjoys helping anyone who is willing to put in the work necessary to achieve their goals.

She is a NCCP registered Level One coach, and Boxing Canada registered coach.  She is also BCRPA registered Fitness Leader, weight room instructor.

She holds a combined boxing/muay thai record of 11/7, in addition to 2 exhibitions and was the 2003 Ringside national champion, and the 2004 B.C. champion and national bronze medallist.

Omar Saville, Conditioning Coach

A force to be reckoned with!  That man can work all day doing heavy lifting then hit the Grouse Grind in 45 min on only 3hrs of sleep!  Omar has been training and coaching with Astoria for 5 years and before that he trained privately with Dave for two years.
As on of our full time coaches, he’s an asset to our club.

Jordan Bowers,  Coach

Retired with an undefeated record, Jordan is a self made south paw and awkward to boot.  Training with Dave from the  start of his career, Jordan works both with the novice and experienced fighters as well as the recreational boxers.  He well knowledge in both technical skills as well as conditioning
